I don't think it is but I'm starting to freak out a bit. My kid went to the salon on Sat. & a day or two later developed an oozing sore in one spot on her head. I cleaned the spot & used antibacterial ointment on it. It has since dried & left a red, circular scab-like thing behind. I treated it again this morning & will be taking her back to the salon to have the stylist (who, of course, is professionally trained & a friend) take a look at it. Could she possibly have ringworm in only on spot? That doesn't really seem likely & there was some trauma to the area during the styling process--extreme heat.)The salon vs. the doctor is my first choice just b/c I don't want the doc pushing some drug that's not going to address the cause. But if my girlfriend hasn't come across this situation in her training, I will have to take her to the doc to be on the safe side. Anybody out there ever had a similar experience after going to the hairdresser or had a kid w/ringworm? Thanks for your help.

Ringworm doesn't cover the whole body, it usually does only occur in one spot.
A reddish-circular sore sounds like ringworm. It's very easy to get. Ringworm can be treated with any anti-fungal ointment. I used the Wal-Mart brand of Lotramin (where you find the treatments for athletes foot) when my kids had it.
The store brand worked just as good, and is much cheaper, less than $2.00 a tube. If you are unsure, get it and try it on the spot. If you notice it improving after a couple applications, you know that's what it is, and continue treatment. (use it 2-3 times a day, and apply generously - don't forget to wash your hands after)
If that doesn't help, I would see a doctor or dermatologist.
Good luck!

It could be ringworm and yes it can only be in one spot. My son had it over his eye next to his eyebrow, his didn't ooz though, it was just red and flaky. If it gets in the hairline the person has to take antibiotics and use a anti-fungal cream for a longer period than if just on an open skin area. I would see a Dr. first. The deal with the hairdresser. Hope this helps.

Ringworm is a strong possiblity. Get some anti-fungal cream at the drugstore. It can now be bought without a prescription.

You just described a ringworm. One red, usually itchy, oozy spot that turns dry and scaly and (obviously) is in the shape of a ring. Tell your stylist friend that she needs to sanatize her equipment, and go to the doctor for a cream that will get rid of the ringworm.
