I don't remember being able to hear the baby's heart beat until I was around 10 weeks pregnant. I am sure that they will have to do an examination though.. Some doctors will give you an ultrasound if they can't hear the heart beat to ease your mind,,, you can SEE the baby's heart beat. He will also prescribe you some prenatal vitamins. You will have a lot of questions to answer as well as a lot of paper work to fill out. You will be nervous, but everything will be o.k. If the doctor doesn't give you an ultrasound at your first visit, they usually give you one around 14 weeks, your second or third visit. Good luck. It will be exciting.

When you go to your first prenatal visit you will have to fill out paper work. There is always paper work. lol! You will have your blood pressure taken and your weight as well. You will most likely give a urine sample and they will give you a bottle that you will have to bring back with you each month with urine in it to check for diabetes . The Dr. will give you a breast exam and give you a pap test if you haven't had one in the last 6 months. He will ask you when your last period was and give you your expected due date. You may also get paper work to have blood work done. You will not be able to hear your babies heartbeat until you are 13 weeks gestation. You will most likely have to wait until you have 2 more visits. He/she may try to hear it on your next visit if you go every 3 weeks. I know how you feel . I am 20 weeks and went in for my first prenatal visit when I was only 6 weeks along and for the first 3 visits I didn't hear a heart beat or anything. He may want to send you for an ultrasound to get the predicted due date. Good luck to you and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!! your having a baby!!!!!!!!

You should be able to hear the heartbeat, but don't worry if you can't. The baby is unbelievable small at 8 weeks. They will probably give you tons of information about pregnancy and what to expect along the way. Of course they will weigh you and take all your vitals. It has been a while since I had my kids, but I remember the first visit. I wasn't really convinced that I was truly pregnant until I heard that heartbeat. It was very exciting. Congratulations.

Hello and congrats. Yes you will hear the babys heart beat. You will fill out a bunch of paperwork. You will give a urine sample. Then its ongoing from there. Every month, then every two weeks, then every week when you are close to delivery. I have three kids and one is 13 months old. Just make sure to ask questions no matter how trivial you think it is. Cause most doctors dont give out any information unless you ask. Good luck and have a Merry Christmas

Your baby is the size of a kidney bean now, so I'd say that you wouldn't be able to yet.
For your first pre-natal visit, there are a number of tests that you will be offered. Some tests are just blood tests, but some are invasive to the baby. All of them are optional, so in order to give the little guy the best chance, you need to decide what's worth it to you.
My wife used the following website when she was pregnant so she would know what was going on:

They may do an ultrasound if you have not yet had one. If they do you will hear the baby's heartbeat but you may have to ask them.
They may take blood.
You will pee in a cup at every visit.
And they may do an internal exam on you. Like a Pap.
And they will ask you tons of family history questions!

Only if they do an ultra sound. 8 weeks is a little too early to hear the heartbeat on the hand held doppler machines. A baby's heartbeat CAN be heard as early as 6 weeks with ultra sound! I saw and heard my son's heartbeat then! Please do research before giving someone a thumbs down for correct info!

Yes, you should hear the heart beet. You will need to pee in a cup. You will just talk with your midwife she will ask how your feeling and if you have insurance and stuff like that. You may need to answer health questions about yourself and your family history! Congrats enjoy your pregnancy, it goes by so fast!
