I am a fearful flyer myself, and these are the things that help me when I have to fly:

1) Think that I have no control over the airplane and that I will leave that to the pilot and to God.
2) Think that it is O.K. to be afraid.
3) Breathe very, very slowly (this is very useful to relieve anxiety).
4) Bring things to occupy my mind: electronic games, portable DVD player, crossword puzzles, magazines.
5) Bring some snack that I like.
6) Bring a map so that I know more or less what the route is.
7) Bring my own music (either discman or MP3).
8) Pray and put myself in God's hands.

Have a great trip!

If you do panic, just take a small break if you can. breathe. Really focus on breathing in and out. I know it feels really bad but they will pass and you won't die. just try to visualize something that makes you feel calm and safe. Really, it's good to get out there. If you can manage your anxiety a little at a time and have some success at it, it usually fades or at least doesn't control your life as much. Try not to worry about it. Put your time into planning your trip and walking through what it's going to look like, where you will stop, what good things are waiting for you. Try to keep it positive.
