5? there isn't even 1 good reason. I watched my dad die from emphazema. When he was 50 years old he was 6'-1" and weighed 185 lbs. At his death in 1999, at 67 years old, he was sttoped over and looked like he was 5'-5" and weighed 120 lbs. Smoking isn't instant death, you last a long time and suffer.

It;s ok to be a critic. Smoking is a terribly addictive habit. They say that quitting smoking is harder than getting off of ANY drug. Years ago when I was quite young, smoking was "cool" and I can remember how I had to "keep at it" in order to enjoy it- at first it makes a person really sick and nauseated. But we kept on because it was so fashionable; that was before they determined how bad it was for one's health. Now a lot of people are so addicted, they sacrifice their health and their lives to continue. I am not offended by your question.

I am not a smoker myself, but as far as I know, the 5 most common reasons why people smoke are as follows:
1) smoking is addictive
2) reduces appetite
3) looks cool, according to some
4) makes you belong to a group (of mokers)
5) gives you something to do in awkward situations

As I am a nurse who has taken care of many patients in end stage lung disease, I can think of no good reason to smoke.

It's a great question. I think many start to be cool or they think it is a sign of their entering adulthood. Then they get addicted and can't quit. Experts on such things say cigarettes are more addictive than heroin.

There's no good reason that I can think of for ME to smoke, but others may disagree when asked why they would smoke.
