in light of murderous sloganeering like "jihad" why are christians reluctant?

to apply the principle of "an eye for an eye....a tooth for a tooth"? are we so civilised we are bound to fail?

Jesus said that we no longer are to apply an eye for an eye/tooth for a tooth, but to love our neighbors and to forgive.

Not so long as we have the biggest baddest army in the universe and can bomb anybody back into the stone age, even if it means destroying all life on the planet!
