Because I despise the Islamic religion I am deemed racist. surely racism implies the discrimination of a person because of their skin colour or country of origin. I am criticising a religion!!

I despise the religion, too. However I don't despise the people of the religion.
That there is the difference, if you despise the people, you can be labeled a bigot/racist. Despising the religion is not racism.

Islam is a religion, not a race. So you won't be considered racist unless you hated Middle Easterners. I don't know of a word that you should be called, but I'm sure there is one. Why despise Islam? Have you studied it's history and the Qur'an? Do you truly understand it? One can't justifiably despise something without fully understanding what it is that they despise. Religion is a personal journey. Muslims have that right to believe what Muhammad taught. Of course you have the right to not believe and not follow Islam. (I suggest you don't becuz I personally think it's a cult). But within all religions, there is no room for hate. God, Allah, YHVH are teach love thy neighbor. You don't have to agree or even like another religion but don't hate it because then you are hating it's believers and hate is a sin.

Its only the ignorant , blinkered left who just love to use the cliches like bigotted and racist because that is how they have been conditioned by the Blair state.
If someone white comes to my country preaching hatred ,honour killings,wife beating ,supporting terrorism and striving to impose religious law, then I wouldnt be happy about that.Would that make me racist?

You are right, it does not. Islam has adherents from every country in the world, like Christianity and Judaism, so this is not a matter of race - but personal choice.

It doesn't. Some people are so insistent on being politically correct that they throw around words without realizing the true meanings. I think you are right for disliking Islam. I feel the same way and I've never felt that way about any religion before. I honestly feel the people are being deceived.

being a Muslims is having a certain way of thinking and being black does not. people in this country brand anyone as christian or Jew as right wing and Islam as left wing.
