I wouldn't say socially bad... but the money they are wasting could be used to help them start their new life together, or for the parents to retire or start their childrens' college funds.

A marriage will get off to a better start if they do not have a big financial burden to deal with because they wanted an elaborate party. Weddings can be very nice without being over-the-top.

So moderation is the wiser course.

There's nothing wrong with having extravagant marriages, if the concerned parties can afford it. However, the worst thing about such functions is the amount of food that goes to waste. It's not a good thing to waste food when a significant percentage of the world's population suffer from malnutrition.

If someone wants to spend a lot of their own money on a wedding why/how does it affect us. Unless they are asking you to chip in it's not a big deal. If they went to the Justice of the peace and got hitched there would still be people without food to eat.

Let's see the other way round. It means employment and food for families of florists, dressmaker, venue decorator, sweeper and everyone involved and hired to get along with the wedding. What do you think about that?

Do you mean Extravagence? Being extravagant? If you can afford to live life richly then do so. Just remember that it's the things that don't cost money that make someone rich (at heart).

:)

I totally agree. My husband is a retired minister. He always said that those who had the most expensive weddings, had the shortest marriages!

One person's habits are not anyone else's business. Starving people should stop feeling sorry for themselves because others have more than they do. They should get up off their a s s and earn their own nurishment and stop asking for hand-outs.
