First of all, I'm glad that you got the cat back. Second, I'm glad that she is doing fine now after being sick from eating rubbish. Third, I am sooo GLAD that you are seriously thinking of turning her into an indoor cat. She'll be heaps safer and healthier. If you do decide to give her an "outing" now and again, don't let her wander around by herself - supervise the outings otr better yet, train her to walk wearing halter and leash. Both my two cats never go out now unsupervised or without the halter and leash - I mean, I walk them outside on a leash.
You are obviously a very caring pet guardian. Good on you!

Septic shock is a fast-moving thing, when you start getting shocky, you may only have a matter of hours before death occurs. So you DEFINITELY did the right thing taking her in to the emergency clinic. Get her spayed if she isn't already and make her an indoor cat. Cats can adapt to being inside just fine.

In general, the smaller the animal (no matter what species), the faster their metabolism, and the faster septic shock can worsen. I'd be surprised in a cat if it lasted more than a day. I think all domestic cats should be indoor cats; they are generally healthier, and live longer lives; they don't get into fights, aren't exposed to harsh weather conditions, and aren't in danger from traffic and other human-created hazards.

You are incredibly lucky that you got home when you did. Septic shock could have killed the cat quickly. This is just one danger that is posed to cats that have the option of going outside. Cats do adapt quite well to staying inside. Try getting one of the fleece window seats that hook onto a window so she can see outside. My cat loves it. You absolutely did the right thing though and most likley saved your cats life.

/ There doesn't have to be a fault by anybody for your dad to be in the hospital. Your thoughts are normal, but NOTHING is your fault. Your dad went in to the hospital for reasons other than you. You dad's condition is what it is because of the condition itself. That means, you didn't cause it, and you didn't change anything by not going into the room. Your grandparents just wanted you to see your father again, and for your father to see you. It is a very difficult time for everyone, but you are not the cause of anything, and your grandparents know you are not the cause of anything. When you are much older, you may wish you went in the room and kissed your dad, but your dad's love for you will always be there - not because you went in the room or didn't go in the room, or kissed him, or didn't kiss him...It's just always there. He knows you love him, too. It's just always (always!) there. And, never think it is your fault that you dad isn't getting any better. Who knows? If he is in the hospital, he might get better. It would be nice if you just sat next to your grandparents and hugged them. That's what they need right now. You can talk with your grandparents about your feelings - believe me, they know it's not your fault that your dad is in the hospital. It's nobody's fault that your dad is in the hospital right now. Keep in mind, if your dad is sick, the hospital is the best place for him because they have doctors and nurses and medicine, so that should help you feel better already.

Very quickly, next time you see your cat in the dumps, take
her to the vet immediately and yes please keep your cat
indoors, she will resist at first but take control and show
her who is boss and she will learn to love her new digs.
