the first guy is wrong, there is ONE single 'shopping' mall in florence, its called, "Gigli". However its not in the center of florence it all, its way way off on the outskirts of florence, i dont think you can even reach it by bus. my bf (who is from florence) keeps telling its the biggest shopping mall in all of itlay so far, but i still dont believe him. i mean its like 'tiny' in comparison to those in the states. its funny cause theres this huge supermarket in side this shopping mall and you see people walking aorudn the mall with thier shopping carts, its kinda of embarassing from an american point of view, no? but thats how it is here.

if your thinking these shopping malls are for you to find nice stuff from florence, you are wrong completely, because this shopping mall is NOT designed for toursits, its just for regular residents. so if your looking for a nice leather jacket or some cool souveniers, Gigli is the last spot you'll ever find it.

if your looking for nice touristy stuff, go to where the girl above mentioned, its called Mercato di San Lorenzo, they sell all leather goods, nice scarfs, shirts, pants, ecc.. and its located in the very center of florence.

about rome, i have no idea, about assisi, that i know is even 10 x less probable of having a shopping mall. this is not an industrial area at all, you'll be lucky to even find a store bigger than a 40 sq meter area. its a historical area 100%, not a remodelled town.

I can't answer for Florence or Assisi (though I doubt there are any IN Assisi, as it is a very small town - possibly some near it). Rome, however, has quite a few malls - and they are called Centro Commerciale (Chen-troh Comerchee-ah-lay). The mains ones are:
Cinecittà Due
I Granai
La Romanina
Centro Leonardo (this is huge and is near the Fiumicino Airport)
There is also an Outlet mall called Castel Romano.

I live in Rome.

Yeah, LOL, it's called the Mercado: The little tiny kiosks that are side by side but you will be amazed what you can find there!! In Florence I bought all my leather jackets, leather pants, leather gloves, leather belts at a fraction of the cost than any main store in Florence!!
Go to the Mercado!!

Enjoy!!
