When silver oxidises it normally is a black colour, so you would expect it to become dull, and a little bit of black stuff to rub off now and then. My flute is silver plated so it happens to it in between cleaning. Green is associated with copper. When copper or its related alloys oxidise they give a green colour. Thats also why blonde girls sometimes have green streaks from public pools. its not the chlorine its the copper sulphate. some pools use some copper sulphate in the water if they have an algae problem. sterling silver is great. enjoy wearing it! :o)

if the jewelry is real sterling silver then it should not turn your finger green unless you are allergic to sterling silver, its all about body chemistry

It all depends on if you wash your hands with your ring on or not or if you get sweaty hands. If there's moisture between your finger and the ring, chances are it will make your finger green.
