Cats must have gone under it, tree soaked it up, now its beautifully decorated, but the urine odor started coming out of the sap. The branches, themselves, smell like pine, but the sap smells like cat urine. HELP! She doesn't want to get rid of it and get a new tree at this time.

The tree was in the yard, was cut down to be used as an indoor tree. There are no cats living in the home. (Neighbor cats are the pee culprits). So, no cat is marking territory anymore - its in the living room.

You might have a cat spruce. Also called a skunk spruce or a white spruce. They're beautiful trees but stink just like cat pee. You can't smell it until after the tree has warmed up inside (usually after you have it all decorated and pretty).

Are you sure you don't have an illegally cut conifer? Coz some organizations spray trees that are not meant to be cut down with fox urine to discourage illegal treecutters from felling trees that are protected. The urine cant really be smelled while the tree is in the outdoors, but when you bring it inside, and your house is all centrally heated and wot, then the odor really starts to become noticeable. Maybe you bought an illegally cut tree. If so, I say return it and complain.

If it's IN the tree and coming out of the sap, you aren't going to be able to get rid of the smell. You may be able to mask it temporarily by spraying the tree with Lysol or Febreze, but the smell will keep coming back until the tree is gone.

Go to a pet store and but a bottle of Petzyme or Nature's Miracle pet odor and stain remover (around $6 to 8). Spray the soiled part of the X'mas tree. Should do the job. Home remedies simply don't work for me.

cat urine is impossible to remove and the cat will keep going back there now its scented....especially if you have more than one cat...they are marking territory.....you could paint kiltz on the bottom....its does seal but the best thing is to remove the tree....an artificial one would not encourage the cats to mark as much

Spray it with a disinfectant spray (like Lysol) and if that isn't enough try spraying it with Febreze to try to mask the odor.
