Essentially between your pelvis and your ribcage. Most of the intestine is in the lower abdomen because the liver and stomach take up some room between the ribs and upper abdomen. The small intestine starts just below the ribs and just above your belly button. As it leaves the stomach it is called the duodenum. The intestine coils around the body cavity. At the end of the small intestine there is the appendix, at the bottom right hand corner of your body cavity. It then becomes the large intestine which coils back up towards the stomach and then back down on the left side. It becomes the colon just before it exits at the rectum.

cold d is right on. Another couple of interesting points. You appendix, which has no function but is the source of appendicitis causes acute pain in a spot 2/3 of the way between your belly button and the bony ridge you can feel on your hip (ASIS, anterior superior iliac spine). This region is called McBurney's point.

The segments of the small intestine (in order from the stomach)are the duodenum (where the pancreas, liver, and gall blatter empty their products), the jejunum, and the ileum. The large intestine segements are then the cecum, the colon, and the rectum.
