We have done this before. Have your child write a letter and then, instead of sending it, go ahead and put it away somewhere. There are different web sites that will send your child a letter, BUT you can always go ahead and have a friend or someone else send something to him. I personally like the idea of having someone that knows you write and send the letter, because they can add personal touches to it.
Heres some sites that do Santa letters:

Go to your local post office. There is usually a box there designated for "Letters to North Pole for Santa" and the name of your town listed on it as well. If not then ask your postal employee at the post office and he should be able to direct you. You may want to save the trip and call first because it might be too late but, it doesn't hurt to try. If it is too late then you will have to do it yourself.

To Santa Clause....duh. Just keep in mind that this is his "busy" time of year. May take awhile for a response.

The post office usually has volunteers that send a child a letter back. It may be getting too late though at this point. You may want to do it yourself.

Not sure where you are...
But here in Australia, all you need do is put the letter with your return address on it in a normal Post Office box and Australia Post will respond to your son

well what you could do is go to the post office and then tell them that u dont really want to send it just rfor them to hold onto it until you come back.then go get it and i guess you could dress up like santa claus and then you read it and tell him that you got the letter and so on. best of luck bye

Ditto deerogre. There are websites where you can do it. I suggest maybe doing it yourself at this point, but make sure that you type the letter (and don't save it on your computer!!), because honestly, it's funny how My Dad's and Santa's handwriting looks SO alike! ;)
