I would get a mirror, paper, a pencil, and start drawing.

I do self-portraits fairly often for practice.
I prop a mirror up and sketch myself holding the drawing board that I'm working on. I try for a 3/4 view of the face, an arched eyebrow, side high-lighting and shadowing. I have to remember to place my beauty marks on the correct side since my mirror image is actually reversed in the drawing. Once I gave myself an artistic face-lift and ended up with a drawing of a strange stranger.
But it was good for a laugh. The years of self-portrait drawings tell the story of my life...the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I did a traditional self portrait in college for a student show where everyone else did something more creative. If I were to do it again, I'd do something more outrageous like make my likeness with toenail clippings or mount a piece of my skin under a magnifying glass.

I've had to do this several times. My favorite was the one I did as an etching to be a print. It's been so long I don't remember what the material was called. I drew my picture, simplified it and etched it on to a soft tile that could be used to roll ink over and make prints. It was Warhol like.

I would ask if I could pick which medium I could use. Then if it did not matter I personally would pick oils. Then I would find a good photo of myself and draw it out to do my self-portrait. It would not bother me to do one of myself. I would have to control myself not to try to make myself look better, but it could be interesting how it turns out. Have fun with it, if you have to do one.

Well, I tried drawing myself, and it didn't look like me at all. So then I curled my hair and stuff, went a mirror, got my sony digital camera, and shot away. I used different effects and stuff, and they came out really good!
