"For you must not prostrate yourself to another god, because Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, he is a jealous God." - 34:14
Most of the customs now associated with Christmas were not originally Christmas customs but rather were pre-Christian and non-Christian customs taken up by the Christian church. Saturnalia, a Roman feast celebrated in mid-December, provided the model for many of the merry-making customs of Christmas. From this celebration, for example, were derived the elaborate feasting, the giving of gifts, and the burning of candles.
We should only serve God and never have something to do with pagan things.
The reason that the Roman Church decided to assign this date to the festival seems to be its tendency to replace pagan festivals with Christian ones. . . . We know that in Rome at that time, the pagans consecrated December 25 as the celebration of natalis invicti, the birth of the ‘invincible sun.
Luke, who tells us of the census that brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem, also tells us of the shepherds' spending that important night out-of-doors with their flocks. These two circumstances have led many Bible researchers to conclude that Jesus could not have been born during December. They point out the unlikelihood of Caesar's forcing the volatile Jews to trek to their home cities during the cold and rainy season, which could further enrage a rebellious people. It is equally unlikely, scholars note, that shepherds would have been living out-of-doors with their flocks in such inclement weather.

Our God is a jealous God as He desires us not to have no other gods(money, power etc.. anything we worship more than God the Father) before Him. The word translation jealous does not mean suspicious or envious, it means God is zealous to protect what belongs to Him.Or better understood as zealous for righteousness.
I think most by now, know that Jesus was not born Dec.25 more likely in Sept. or October and the wise men who came to worship the King, probably arrived when He was 2 or 3 yrs. old.Celebrating His birth on a day that was a pagan holiday would not be pleasing to Him. However if we celebrate the fact that Christ was with us in this world, what difference does it make if we esteem one day over another. It is the Spirit of Christmas that moves some people to help others less fortunate, that who otherwise would not help the needy, the rest of the year. Sad but true.A time to celebrate God giving the perfect gift, His Son.I know it has become so commercialized,it must grieve the Father. The Spirit of love at Christmas, may it soften the hardness of hearts, and let the Light shine brightly until He returns.

China rose, regardless to what you say he has a point. You can call it "Christ - mass" and make stupid stories up, it doesn't take away the proven historical fact that this is a pagan holiday that pagans worshiped the sun on in their different forms of the birth of their sun god savior (winter Solstice ). It's a pagan holiday and has absolutely positively nothing to do with Jesus nor his message. Period, niether does easter which origin is from pagan religions as well. Makes more since to celebrate passover then that crap.

I don`t go for the idea that God is jealous or spiteful or any other negative human failing, the early writers of the Old Testament used words like this to try and express the seriousness of Gods word.

Ummm, what are you talking about? I'm not paying any kind of tribute to any other spirit or wanna-be deity. Worship is found in the heart and mind, not in some nebulous reference to ancient customs nobody even remembers anymore.

We celebrate christmas by thanking and praising God for sending His son, Jesus, into the world. I wouldn't think He would be jealous.

If someone celebrated my birth even if it was on the wrong day I would be honored that they care.
The main problem with Christmas is when Santa is more visible then Christ. But that isn't a problem in my house or Church.

Understand .
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
