I am not a "non-believer" in God.

I am a believer in many Gods and Goddesses. However, I just don't follow yours. Too much of a demanding God, and he seems to think he has rights over the other Gods and Goddesses.

Get it right, hon. Yours is one of many, and who we choose to work with is our own choice. You made your choice. We make ours.

To be brief, it hath been decided by the desire of God that union and harmony may day by day increase among the friends of God and the maid-servants of the Merciful One, in the West. Not until this is realized will the affairs advance by any means whatever! And the greatest means for the union and harmony of all is Spiritual Meetings. This matter is very important and is as a magnet for divine confirmation. If the beauty of this Divine Beloved One -- that is, unity of believers -- does appear in the ornament of the Kingdom of Abha, it is certain that those countries will, in a short time, become the Paradise of Abha and the light of unity and singleness will shine upon the whole world  414  from the West. We are endeavoring with all heart and soul, have no rest night and day, nor a moment of tranquillity, so that we may make the world of humanity the mirror of the divine unity; how much more the beloved of God! And this wish and hope shall appear and shine forth at that time when the true friends of God may arise and act in accord with the teachings of the Beauty of Abha -- may my life be a sacrifice to His beloved ones! One of the teachings is that love and faithfulness must so prevail in the hearts that men may see the stranger as a friend, the sinner as an intimate fellow, may count enemies as allies, regard foes as loving comrades, call their executioner the giver of life, consider the denier as a believer and the unbeliever as a faithful one -- that is, men must behave in such a manner as may befit the believers, the faithful, the friend and the confidant. If this lamp may shine in a befitting manner in the assemblage of the world you will find that the regions will become fragrant and the world become a delectable paradise, the surface of the earth will become an excellent garden, the world will become as one home, the different nations will become as one kind, and the peoples and nationalities of the East and West will become as one household. I hope such a day may come and such lights may dawn and such a Countenance may appear in the utmost beauty.

ok first of all who created god? a being of power can not just appear out of nowhere just like we know we cant make a million dollars appear out of thin air (that would be awesome if we could tho) anyway... secondly how can people who do believe say that adam and eve are "metaphors" and not real people and others say they were real...when in all reality arent they the reason we are even here today? (in bible reality) third how can people believe in god and the story of the bible when we have turned down other ancient cultures myths of gods and goddess's because we know they were false. and if the bible is "gods" word then why was it written by men of many different time periods who most likely didn see half the sh!t they wrote.....thats hypocritical, claiming to be a witness when it was years before there own time. and how could moses write genesis and exodus and the other book when he died in the stories....he wrote about his own death??? wish i could do that. and my favorite one of all! is that adam according to bible studies and tracings of his time adam was said to have been alive around the times of 3500 B.C. i forget where i read this but i do alot of comparisons to the bible and science, and i found this which states the first TRUE human lived 2 million years ago, thats way before adam and eve, so how can that be? the reasons i chose to not believe in the bible isnt because god has never been there for me or anything but its just because readingthe bible i find it to be so illogical, that if it was written even 100 years ago i dont think people would believe because they would no that its not true/possible, but because its so old and scientist cant really prove anything otehrwise then people believe because they think if they dont then they go to hell, and for a non believer i even know that no one gets into heaven unless you have lived a SIN FREE life and no one can do that because before you know right from wrong you sin! and most people dont reliaze if god is real most are just going to limbo, the middle world but i still think the lil mermaid sounds more logical than a god who we dont know where he came from.

i guess i should state i believe jesus was a real person we have found the "tarin" or w/e it was he was buried in, but i dont believe he was raised from the dead or healed people, because its something thats in your mind, if u believe your sick you will get sick if u believe that some one healed you through the mind you will feel better because they told you you will get better, today we call it a placebo! but very very good question!

A little background first. I was raised a catholic and attended catholic school. When I was about 30 I switched over to a Bible based community church which was really a Baptist Church that didn't call itself Baptist for some reason. During that time I claimed to accept Jesus as my personal saviour and did evangalism work with the pastor and bible studies and all sorts of work. I say this so you know that I have read and studied the Bible and I am not ignorant of christian belief. I later switched to another Bible teaching church along the same lines that was closer to my home.
Here's the thing as I experienced the people who claimed to be christians more and more I found more and more that I did not agree with their social stances on many issues and I found that in many cases they were driven by prejudice and ignorance and to put it simply they wanted their church family to be people who were "like them" carbon copies of each other. I found they didn't love everybody as Jesus commanded but simple loved those who they felt were just like them, same color, same sexual orientation, same political views etc.... their church was really a big social club designed to gather together people of like politcal and social views not to build personal spirituality which is what I feel it should be. Also I realized as I evolved as a mature person emotionally and spritually that most of my beliefs in god where based on fear, fear of god, fear of not being like my family, these things were drilled into me from the time I was a kid and I was afraid to admit my doubts in god because that meant I would be "bad" in someway or be punished. I won' t go into details but a traumatic event caused me to undergo some serious self reflections on myself and part of that was realizing that the stories of the Bible although well meaning in most cases could not possibly have happened as they are recorded because I have been taught the knowledge of physics and science. The ocean doesn't part , the world wasn't created in 7 days that is all impossible by any rational persons thought process. Eventually I was able to say that I am agnostic which is what I am. I don't know if there is a higher power or if there is what it wants or expects of my but I will remain open to things in case it reveals some truth to me. I work on personal spirtuality in a very general way trying to improve myself not change others. I don't know the answers and I will admit that so not knowing the answers gives me no right to stand in judgement of what others believe or insist they believe something that I do. Also accepting Jesus never really made me happy or at peace the way they claimed it would in fact I became more like them which was prejudice and full of unacceptance for others. I am much happier now and have some serenity and to me that is a good sign whether that comes from some higher power or just in myself I don't know or really care but I am happier now in my life.

I have a little trouble with *blind faith* required by the Christian God. The bible to me is not hard evidence, and it troubles me that *believers* seem to believe that it is and hold it up to us non-believers as hard evidence. It is nothing more than a human interpretation of *god's* word. I should say rather that it is religious institutions of men's making that have tainted what should be something pure (not that religious institutions don't have their good points- they have plenty too). In that, whatever spirituality that I have is strictly between me and *god*. I don't need a church, or some book, or promises of an afterlife paradise to tell me that I need to be a good, honest, compassionate person.

Depends on which God you are talking about.

I don't believe in any God of any religion I have ever heard of since they are all too human. The religions and explanations make no sense and make it seem that the God and the universe came into being JUST to create humanity.

I guess I found my own God so I would not have to be vain and foolish enough to ascribe human features to God and also so i could escape the nonsense of organized religion

There are no complex reasons that need to be explained-lack of evidence for God makes non belief the correct choice from a logical viewpoint and that is the only viewpoint that has any meaning to me.

With another respondent, I would suggest that you be more specific as to what model of god you're referring. There are many God/Ultimate concepts that a devout Jew, Muslim, or Christian might find to be well-nigh to atheism.

It's not that I don't believe in "God". It's that I don't believe in Man's images of God. This includes all religious ideas about what God is and how God reacts with the world.
