I grew up in an irish/italian family with a lot of brothers and sisters.
And the rules for he boys were not the same as the rules for the girls. My mother was very strict with the girls and even when I was engaged I was expected to be chaparoned the few and far between times I went away with my fiance at that time. Yet my brother could go away with his girlfriend while we was living under my parents roof and not much was said, he got all the leniency and I was treated like I was five years old. Forgive me for being crass or crude but the private part on is born with will determine how you will be treated if you are a girl the rules are stricter if you are a boy it is not. I know girls are the ones who get prengant but it is the guys that get them pregnant in the first place shouldn't the rules apply to them as as well? Why is there such a double standard? Why is it that the girl always have to be accountable and the guys arent at times? This is a question that has been on my mind.

all are valid questions...but the answer is simply that these things vary according to culture and society. I know it seems unfair to be treated differently cos ur a girl, but u know in a way or another that they do this cos they want to protect u from trouble. A girl is by nature physically and emotionally different from a boy, she's more sensitive, tends to get hurt and broken easily, physically weeker when it comes to self defence...ur parents r treating u in a "special" way, and that should make u feel distinguished..they care enough about u to put their timeand effort into trying to protect u, they might seem to overdo it sometimes, but if u think of it, they're way better than those parents who seem "open minded" and just cant spare any time to direct their children and supervise them, they just let them go their way and watever happens happens...I think ur parents love u and care about u more than most in other societies, and that is a blessing at least, even if u'd like less supervision, but at least u know ur a little princess who's so precious to be let out in the world wthout security :)

It seems that these "rules" have changed significantly....to some degree it seems too bad that they have.....as a society, we have lost so many of the values and morals that we each had when things were a little more "controlled" and civil in the home and world in general.....I truely believe that we have become morally bankrupt as a society and long for those good old days......

Probably because it is usually the male who is the aggressor and is more inclined to want sex before the girl. The female is usually weaker physically and in the minds of parents will be forced to have sex when not necessarily ready. Not necessarily raped but coerced.

I grew up like you , but I am glad my parents were strict like yours ,especialy mom, now that they are gone and I am an adult now, and a widow. I respect my self, I do not indulge in casual sex ( that's addicted) unless the guy cherish me and want's commitment. I dont fall for a touch of a man but his good characters. As an adult I learned that guys are double standard, they want to have fun w/ easy girls, but they fall in love to the nice girl, introduce to their family w/ pride and gave their name to her and expect that she does not have a lot of experience like they do in sex ( they even expect you to be a virgin some nerves!) .which one do you want to be ? A slut or a nice decent girl?

I guess your parents are over reacting but maybe it depends on your age, they can be just concerned about you and the rest of the girls they wanted to have all of you a safe lives.Just wait until you are ready to stand on your own then ask them about it.

you said it right there. girls CAN get pregnant. Parents are far more afraid that their girls will get knocked up so they go to extremes I guess.

Dont hold it against them, they are old fashioned ways and thanks to people like urself we can change how kids are treated in the future. I know friends of mine are a lot more even handed than their parents or mine.

I agree with you it sucks. Girls are seen as vulnerable and victims all the time, just cos they have a vagina!

I'm sick of it too!
