Seriously?

In the early nineties in the UK breweries were suffering massive losses as the rave generation learnt very quickly that booze and E didn't mix. A good night out could be had on a couple of pills and a few litres of water.

They needed to get people back into pubs. Women have traditionaly not been a priority for pubs, they don't spend enough on getting bladdered. But the breweries realised if they targeted women with new ranges of modern drinks they would open themselves up to a whole market, and men would follow them into the pub. And buy them alcopops. Marketing genius. And raves slowly diminished.

The point of alcopops is to tempt young children into alcohol dependency.

Fair play to the alcohol industry - it's all about survival of the fittest. If parents want to let their kids become alcoholics and die at an early age, that suits me - they'll be drawing benefits for less time, leaving more money for my pension and my children's education.

The point of alcopops is to make drinking alcohol a whole lot easier to swollow, like your drinking it but you don't realize how drunk your getting.
I also think that the whole alcopops buisiness is directed at teens.

Me personally can't stand the stuff, too much fizz and too much sugar, gives me bloody heartburn.

Its all about selling. Manufacturers need to make new and exciting drinks to entice us into drinking their product. Unfortunately because they come in stupid flavours with bright colours they appeal to younger drinkers and childish older drinkers who dont know any better.

Once upon a time young people used to try beer and not like it until a couple of years later when their palettes developed. Now they can drink cherry-ade flavoured vodka which tastes nothing like alcohol and so are more likely to deveop a drink habit.

Irresponsible parents often treat their kids to a couple of bottles of alchopop on a Friday night which is not teaching them to drink responsibly. When I was younger my parents would treat me to a small glass of wine topped up with water and only then with a meal.

All we are doing is breeding a new generation of people with no taste and with serious alcohol problems.

Its to teach teenagers the enjoyment of being absolutely bladdered! Often their palates arent developed enough to enjoy a nice cold beer so give them alcohol in something that they do like. Lemonade for example. That way they can learn their limits and what it feels like to be drunk and know when to stop at an early age in a bus shelter rather than stumbling round the pub annoying people when they turn 18

Well, it all started off in Australia, a guy had got this huge glut of lemons, didn't know what to do with them, and then somebody suggested he make lemonade, he fermented it, and it was a big hit with them - it was so hot there, they were drinking it like ordinary lemonade and drunker than the usual lager....the rest is history!
