There are som many was to propose to someone....but I hanestly have to say that through, phone call, IM or email had never crossed my mind as romantic or memorable. It is a huge moment for the both of you and at least deserves the pleasure of a face to face encounter. Beyond that, it is totally open as to what you want to do. It can be as simple as telling her over dinner....or you can go all out and do the stereotypical horse drawn carriage underneath the falling snow...point being, she will remember this forever and you want to be there to see her reaction anyway, don't you?

sure is ... as you are chatting make sure you are in your car driving over there of course you will need a lap top or cell messaging and then say hold on one moment and knock at her door and then pop the question ... hm i think that's the only way to propose while chatting good luck

the manner in which a girl receives a proposal is something she will remember, and hopefully cherish, the rest of her life...especially if she says yes.
Propose in person, look into her eyes, take her some place special and meaningful to her...this will make her feel extraordinary. You can't give her such a display of love unless you're in person.

There is only one way to propose :
Good restaurant, lots of quiet and polite people. Both of you dressed well.
You on your knees.....the clink of plates stop and everyone is looking at you.
Hold up the diamond ring and ask for her hand in marriage.
She wasnt expecting this.....but maybe she was.
She makes you wait 100 years and your knees go dead.
Silence everywhere now as the cheese fundues congeal on people's plates.
