adonde or donde = both can used without any difference at all, as long as you use them with a verb that indicates movement.
voy donde/adonde me llevan = I go where they take me.

adonde = cannot be used with a verb that indicates rest or no movement.
la casa donde vivo = the house where I live. (NOT adonde)

dónde estás = where are you (NOT adonde) and when is question like here will have an accent.

Adonde used to be more specific, usually indicating movement. Now there is not fuss using both as synonims
