Myself i personally want applicants who do no longer deliver faith into the political section. it truly is not any longer announcing i'd vote for an Atheist outright because they didnt have self belief in some thing, yet too a lot interest is placed in the promotion and luring of non secular communities by using doing demographics and surveys as to what particular communities would search for in a canididates ideals. In different words in the journey that your someone operating and performance no longer presented out your non secular ideals on your marketing campaign and right now your advisors inform you that 80% of voters want a reliable Christian chief and then right now you start up telling about your non secular convictions that only shows me that your doing what you could to get the vote and its all a educate.

I would most certainly vote for an Atheist for President. I hope to get the chance someday, though I'm not holding my breath.
There's a better chance, though, that I may get the chance to vote for someone who has stood up to the religious right. John McCain did briefly in 2000, though of course the Republicans immediately attacked him mercilessly to end his campaign. But if even a Republican could do that, I have hopes to have a major party nominee someday who does it.

I would never vote for an atheist presidential candidate because I am in the UK...and we don't have presidents.
That said, we manage to seperate church and state quite effectively here, so a political leader's religious belief have little bearing on whether or not they are voted for.

We have had an Athiest before. Jefferson might as well have been an Athiest. Had he been alive today, there can be no doubt that he would be one today.
People have a right to vote for whoever they want to for whatever reasons. My friend voted for Gore because Gore was taller.

I certainly wouldn't make my decision based entirely on his or her religious beliefs, I'd be far more interested in their moral beliefs.
Having said that, I'd be more likely to vote for an aethiest or agnostic because their moraltiy is less likely to be biased by baseless beliefs.

Maybe he would do his job based on logic rather than conservative teachings? You know what other government ruled on the basis of conservative religious teachings?? The taliban.....I mean really wtf do gay marriage and abortion have to do with running a country if you are against them don't do it is that simple. And I'm a straight Christian, but I think an atheist president could be a good thing.

It depends on his political views.
I could care less who the president prays to (or lack there of) as long as I agree with is platform.
unfortunately most people in America are not like me. You still have many people that vote straight ticket republican and democrat..

Better a competent atheist than a incompetent, bumbling fool pandering to the evangelical crowd.

No, I would not.Why are you in the closet? Are you ashamed of who you are? I believe we will have both a black man & white woman running for President in 2008.
