Also, general nutrition can be a factor; in fact, it's the first place I'd start. Make sure that you're getting enough calcium, protein, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, for your height and frame. Before hitting the doctor, try taking prenatal vitamins and/or sublingual vitamin b12 (sublingual hits your bloodstream immediately, and you can get it at Walgreens and other places like that, for little money). Don't substitute good eating habits with vitamins, though -- just use them as a supplement.

Also, how often do you color and treat your hair? Do you protect it from extreme temps and the sun? Do you curl and dry daily? If your hair is wet, do you twist it up into a clip, or pull it into a pony tail?

Not all people need to wash their hair daily -- give it a couple of days for your hair to adjust, and maybe just braid it on "nonwashing" days. Don't dry and curl and flatiron every day. Try wearing hats and scarves in the sun and extreme cold.

Straight Arrow makes a shampoo and conditioner, Mane and Tail, which I used on abused and neglected animals for years, before using it on my own head. It's far cheaper than most shampoos and such out there. Since I get highlights a few times a year, I also buy Nexus conditioner for color-treated hair, and use that about every other week.

I also eat to my heart's delight, and take supplements, and exercise. And I only wash my hair every other day. It grew over a foot within the last 8 months, with few split ends.

In winter season the hair loss will be high compared to other season. If the hair loss is btwn 100 to 150 strands a day, it is quite normal. If the hair loss is above that then you may need to consult a doctor. There are various reason for hair loss. It can be vitamin deficiency, dandruff problem or due to the shampoo which you are using.Instead of using chemical shampoos you can try using Henna based herbal powder like Meera and check whether this helps you solve the problem. Drinking more water and vitamin rich fruits and vegetable also help in growing healthy hair. Massaging the scalp using oil also help in the blood circulation which in turn helps in the growth of hair.

you should massage your hair with warm oil(especially coconut or olive oil)at least twice a week and leave overnight.also make sure the shampoo you are using is not detergent based.use a mild shampoo or ask a doctor or chemist for a clinical shampoo for the problem.eat lots of fruits, take juices and eat a very healthy diet which has lot of magnesium and iron in it. if it still persists then consult a doctor as it could be more serious a matter.
