When Vista is officially released for retail purchase (early in 2007 for the UK), you'll be able to upgrade from XP to Vista. In other words, you won't have to delete XP before installing Vista and all your programs and data will remain. However, that doesn't guarantee all of your problems will continue to work on Vista!

There is a pretty good chance some programs (especially older and no longer supported programs) will not work with Vista.

With the pre-release versions of Vista, there were no guarantees that you could upgrade from XP to Vista without doing a full Vista install from scratch.

Don't go for Vista yet, it isn't ready and probably won't be for some time.
