Zabist, who's a devout Muslim girl has given you the right answer and so has Brazil Nutz. And you can see Samiya's opinion there too.
The issue is not your eating with them, but having made friends with them that is unislamic or hara'am.
A Muslim must not take a kaffir for a friend (surah 5:51).
Of course, any non-Muslim is a kaffir, so it's hara'am for you to befriend anybody other than Muslims; including Jews and Christians.
Merry Christmas!!!!

Waw...
Some people here have given some weird answers.
Here's what I see...
The issue is not who you eat with, the issue is with the food itself.
If the food is halal (for example... contains no gelatin, contains no wine, the meat is slaughtered properly, ect.) then there is no problem at all, because the food is halal.
But if the food is not halal, then that is where the problem comes.
Specifically speaking about those who are not christian or jews. The way their meat is slaughtered is the issue. It is not ok for a Muslim to eat what is not halal.
When it comes to christians and jews, they were given instructions on what is good and what is not (don't know how it is now though), and for that it was considered alright.
That is what I see, God is the Al-knowing.
Peace.

Mine is a country with a Muslim background, meaning that 90% of the population is Muslim, and everyone here would sit, eat and share food with other people, no matter if they're Christians, Jewish, Muslims or anything else;)

The restriction on food is whether it is halal or not, in addition muslims are bound by their religion to share and offer hospitality to people. I think you need to talk to muslims about islam and get the true view it appears your hindu friends have been misinformed.

Muslims are tolerant by definition. Do not think that the very small minority of fanatic islamist you always hear about on the media are representative of Islam and muslims. I had the opportunity to spend some time in countries with a majority of muslims and was always most welcome at people's home or table to share meals or tea.

yes it is true , muslims and non muslims shouldn't be friends because anyone can change their religion if they aren't strong in it.
but the true fact is muslims hate jews more than christians if a muslims sees a jews walkin acrossed him ...there would be a fight that will never end, untill someone dies.
eating next to christians is fine but calling them "best friends' is jus' plain wrong.

Eat with muslims quite often. They are not an alien species and have no problem with anyone sharing food with them. Forget the religion and enjoy each others company.

i think ur muslim ,, there's is aya in qur'an says " la yanhakom allah 3an allazeena lam yo9atelookom fel deen wa lam yokhrejookom men deyarekom ,an tabarroohom wa to9setoo elayhem enn allah yo7ebbo al mo9seteen " that means we should treat other religions in a good way as long as they didnt start a fight with us or moved us out of our homes ,, i think that includes eating as well ,
anyway before a muslim starts to eat any food prepared by any non muslim, he should check *if it's possible* if its not allowed for him to eat this kind of food* like pig meat * then he should say * in the name of God * before he starts eating, & enjoy the meal , * God knows better than me * * wallahu a3lam*
