I heard it's pretty gross and if you knew, you wouldn't eat meat anymore.

My son worked in one for 3 years. He eats steaks so rare, they gross me out, and I eat them rare. Anyway, the gross part, the kill floor goes like this. Line up the cattle an feed them into a chute one at a time, usually there are 2 chutes. The head is locked into a brace and a .22 shell fires a rod into the head knocking out the cow. as he falls, hes picked up by his back feet and hung up. His neck is slit and his heart pumps out blood until he dies. Then a guy with a big knife and raincoat slits him stem to stern and the guts come crashing out. Excess is cut out, hosed and off to be aged.

sure. and yet people see nothing wrong in ripping a poor defenseless plant out of the ground and allowing it to die slowly by dehydration and starvation.
