I am a Muslimah.
Why do we have to recite the Noble Qu'raan? The Qu'raan is Allah's revealed word. We need to read the Qu'raan and follow the laws and guidelines as set out in the Qu'raan. We are rewarded for reciting it. Just as a person loves to read and re-read a letter sent from a loved one, so too do the believers in Allah love to read and re-read the Noble Qu'raan.
Do we have to know the WHOLE Qu'raan off by heart? NO. We do not need to know the WHOLE Qu'raan off by heart. We just learn a few portions of it that we recite in prayer. However, there is great reward for learning the entire Qu'raan off by heart. Such a person is called a hafiz.

Well you don't have to do recite the Quran or to memorize it, the Quran is like a guideline you should read it in order to know the religion and it's rules better so you can organize your life like a true muslim.
The Quran is in Arabic it's better offcourse to read it in Arabic if you know the language, but there are translations to Quran in many languages.

It's such a pity that they indoctrinate thier children from day #1. 6 year old kids reciting the Koran by heart is usual.
Sadly, that's the only way they can convince themselve that the lies and madness of the Koran are really God's words.
If you know about Mohammad, who had 9 wives and 21 concubines [the details of which are even more disgusting, but too long to recount here] and was so morally bankrupt that he even coveted his own adopted son- Za'ids wife - Za'inab; murdered all the beni Nadir who were grazing their cattle when he attacked and took the 16 year old Safiyah [Sophia] for a wife, leaving her the only survivor of that Jewish Tribe and even married the 9 year old Aisha Siddiqa whom he'd "playing" with since she was 6[!?] , I don't think you'd like this sorry excuse for a "Religion" preached by such a "man".
That's why they need those regimented 5 prayers together in the Mosque, because otherwise, people could start asking themselves how can the words of such a shameful man be True?
That's why they need the rule of killing any apostate [Muslim wanting to leave Islam]; because without these things, they'll lose their congregation in no time flat!?
Well, what's the use of talking about these mentally challenged people, anyway?
Merry Christmas!!!!

First of all we do not have to know the whole Quran off by heart.People who are lucky enough to have the concentration and ability to learn the Quran off by heart are called Quran Hafiz.
We recite the Quran because it is our holy book and we do so when offering prayer and as devotion as a whole.

piece be upon you sis,
even you are moslem or not please respect all other religion, then you will be respected also. we, moslem, believe that Quran is the guideline for us to live the life. because we believe that the words come from one God, and he realy know how to use this world wisely, if we have no guideline we can be uncontrolled and make destruction to the world and human living. In Quran, God teach us how to make relationship between God and human, Human and human and Human and nature. Offcourse every real moslem realy knows the whole book by heart, even they can memory the whole book and can translate to their mother language. thanks for the question and piece be upon you. lets spread love not hate, like every religion do

Salaam
To confirm our faith. To learn Of God's guidance and Blessings and Mercy and Love. To help us through hardships and to remind us of how lucky we are.It is also part of our daily prayers(not the whole Quran, just selected parts).
I don't think you have to know the WHOLE Quran. If a muslim choose to learn the whole Quran then God Bless him.As long as you know what the Quran is about then its Ok.
Basically the same reason that Jews and christians read their respective holy books.
