Well ! You ask a question like this than its natural you will be given a lot of views in orderto make you more confuse !
Lets have some Technical View over this !
Dear , Engineering Is more like a tripod ,
you can use it as you want !
And three pillars of it are Mechanical , Civil , Electrical Engg . Other branches are specialisation and mostly are derived from above three !
For Engineering You must have an aptiude of going to the depth
If details are not your cup of tea then Any Engg you choose will be trouble !
Now on Appilication Side of Engg. In Industry Engg has two sides
1. Maintainance : It is mostly Mech.,Civil.,Elect.,Engineers working in this area . Their duty is to maintain plant equipments only . It is a thankless job. You may not be appreciated but job may be satisfying if you like machines repairing !
2. Production : Very Very creamy job . You are always awarded & a graet scope for development in this side rather than Maintainance ! Duty = Use the machines maintained by other Engineers & make Products ! As this job is directly connected
to sales of company , good job done is always given appreciation
It is less difficult job to do than Maintainance ! People who have
done B.E.Chemical or B.Tech with Industrial Engineering get this production jobs
Now you have to choos e according to your Aptitude , Marks , Financial Capacity ! Best of Luck !
I am a Chemical Engineer ! You can ask me for further query if needed !

Try to do general engineering first to try to explore a little bit of everything and see if you even want to do engineering. I don't know how old you are, but it's almost impossible for a high school student to realize the complexity of engineering. It's not an easy major.
Always go with what you want to do. Electrical and Mechanical are the two most popular majors.

OK, I'm an Engineer (electronics) I had a boss one time who told me: If I had a son or daughter who'd come to me one day to tell me, Dad I want to become an engineer, I would beat the bejeezes out of that child and try to beat some sense into him or her.
Elecrical/Electronic Engineering is one of the most thankless job around. We get stuffed into a cubicle and get virtually no regognition for what we accomplish. Plus we are considered disposable. Ever read Dilbert? It is written by a former engineer/cubilcle dweller. Everything you see in Dilbert, it's all true!
If you have to go into engineering I would say, I think civil engineers have the potential of doing the most good. And are given a fair amount of responsibility.
Instead of going into Engineering I would suggest accounting. It sounds dull, but for the same amount of effort it takes to become an engineer you could be on your way to a real carreer. Even in an engineering company, the accountants are running the show. And the possibilities are endless, for branching out into other areas of finance.

I am a Mechanical Engineer, so I lean toward this specialization. My brother is a Genetic Engineer and he has never worked in his field. I, however, was able to work as a contract engineer for many years in R&D, where I was able to get a few patents and retire at 40. I was well rewarded and also well conected in my industry. It also didnt hurt to have been a master machinist before I got my BA. This made me especially valuable to my customers not only because I had practical everyday experience in the shop but i could also control costs associated with complex machinery fabrication. I have worked in aerospace, packaging, canning, food processing and instrumentation. I feel it was a very rewarding career both financially and astetically.

If you're going to pursue any degree in Engineering, you'd better be good with your math. That being said, I'm a Mechanical Engineering student. If you like making things, go with either Mechanical or Civil. Beyond that, we really know nothing about you or your preferences to be able to judge. Any way you go, GOOD LUCK!

It depends on ur interest. But if u r interested 2 go with any prospective Engineering, then go for MECHANICAL ENGINEERING-as it is called evergreen engineering. U can change anytime ur trade in working field as this is the mother trade.Bcoz a mech engg has 2 gain knowledge on etc, comp.sc, elec, env. engg also besides mechanical engineering

It all depends what you're interested in.
If you're wondering what to study look into the courses available. I'm studying Civil engineering at Warwick university but the course I'm doing starts out for the first couple of years as a general course and you specialise in the 3rd and can choose modules relating to your interests before that.
If its not university you're interested in look into what interests you. I've always been interested by large structures and kinda annoyed by electronics so was quite easy for me.
If you read up on each of the strands something might jump out at you.
do some research, it may help you.

I think the wave of the future will be Genetic Engineering. We will be able to regrow body parts, etc within the next 50 years.

you should go for that branch in which u have a taste....if u love wat u study then its not an effort anymore and success is bound to come along....as a suggestion i would recommend electronics engineerin becos of its relevance ..procuring a job also is easy ....if u take up electronics and electrical i m sure its agood choice cos electricity is what drives the world and electronics keeps it alive....more and more power stations are setup every day so more electrical engineers are needed..but if u are not havin a taste in electrnics better not take tat

Being an Electronics Eng I am biased (technical joke). But, I would advise electronics because it is so varied with several disciplines under the one umbrella. Despite what other people may say, it can be very rewarding both financially and personally.
