Hi there again...sometimes when kittens who used to meow begin squeaking it may be because it was meowing/crying very frequently because it was lonely missing you. Now that you have returned home, perhaps in a few days your kitten's voice will return to normal. Be sure he/she has plenty of fresh water to help keep him/her hydrated which should also help.

I have never heard a cat squeak before, but sometimes one of my cats meows and you can barely hear her. I don't know if that is squeaking or not. I would call the vet to ask them if they think there is anything to worry about, and if the vet suggests bringing the cat in, I would so that.

there could be many things wrong. does it seem to have trouble swollowing? is it running a fever. Gently move your fingers over its neck and around it's chest to see if you can feel anything that seems odd (could have swollowed something). does it gag a lot? You need to keep a very close eye on the cat. if it starts to gag, or seems to lose weight or run a fever. then get it to the Vet. It also could have strained it's voice meowing for you while you were gone. how long were you gone. was it alone? where others watching it? It also could be a growth spurt. cats do "chirp" when they are excited I.e. when they see a bird or other prey. However. really check it over. if it continues or you see any other odd behavior, get it to the vet. it may have swollowed something even a fox tail... (grass)

I'm guessing, but I think your kitty has meowed himself hoarse while you were away and has now "lost" his voice. Just like what happens to us when we shout or scream or talk talk talk too much - we "lose" our voice, right? If this is what happened, your kitty will get his "meow" back in a couple of days.
