ironing with a clothes iron is damaging to your hair no matter what you use. They dont have the same components that one made for hair does.

I HAD really curly hair, just above my shoulders. I used to straight iron it almost every day. Eventually a lot of the curl came out...not sure if this is normal or not, but my hair is now wavy, not curly. If I use a straightening shampoo and conditioner, it gets even straighter.

My hair isn't quite as healthy as it was before I got in the habit of straightening it, so I do conditioning treatments. I would limit how often you straighten your hair. A lot of the new straighteners have variable temperatures, use the lowest temperature possible to get your hair the desired straightnesss. Also, if you blow dry your hair before you straighten it (usually with a round brush), you can just touch up the areas that you would like smoother without doing your whole head. Be careful around the forehead area; my friend ended up breaking off a lot of hair and had weird wispy bangs that stuck out from straightening her hair too much.

Good luck!

well, just about everything from the sun's UV rays to water can cause damage to an extent. make sure you have your hair trimmed at least every 2 months to keep split ends away.

as far as heat damage, check the label on the serum you are using, does it offer heat protection? if not, you may want to try a heat protection spray like Turn Up the Heat by Beyond The Zone, or a Spray on oil glosser like Proclaim. both pf these products can be found at Sally Beauty Supply stores.

You also want to make sure your hair is properly moisturized, you can achieve this by using Nexus Humectress conditioner, or a cholesterol conditioning cream which you can find at most beauty supply and drug store retailers. moisture will help prevent split ends and breakage due to damage.

Harsh heat will damage your hair, especially if you're a guy. I would recommend using an alternative that won't put your hair in jeopardy. There are a lot of hair molding products out there and if you want the good stuff, you'll have to pay for it. Being a man, hair is something you can't afford to lose...

Yes, ironing will damage the hair. Just keep using protecting products.

Any heat may damage hair, but if you limit it to 2-3 times a week , that will be better for your hair then straightening every day
