The subject of weather can be kept up for quite a while if you begin with the current weather status and the forecasts for your immediate area and then progress on to the weather in the areas in which you have friends or family that is in a different location then yourself. After exhausting that you can then speak of weather storms and experiences such as blizzards and hurricanes and from there you can speculate on weather in areas you have never been. e.g. a tropical climate or a frigid one or a desert like climate. You can speak of weather differences in altitude and the effects of the negative ions in the windy places and how the windy weather can affect flight conditions say in a place like Colorado and Wyoming which can be both high altitude and windy which causes extreme wind speeds for flight and truck driving etc....As you can see, one can speak of the weather for a very long time if they choose to bore someone to death with it or if they don't want to speak of anything personal.

Depends... The longest conversations I've had about it consist of comparing the weather in Ca to back east. You can get a real oneupmanship contest going with that one.

ditto garland. However any talk about weather can be interpreted as you not having anything important to say, but still wanting to talk. Who knows, people will think whatever.
