Someone went through this whole list of answers giving each answer a negative rating. Someon obviously thinks tha naswer is not bycicle clips, but didn't bother to share their profound knowledge of cycling terms with us. How grateful we are.
As for an answer, I'd have gone for the velcro straps (specially the luminous types.) I always thought clips were just the toe clips for latching the shoe to the pedal.

Actually, there are some light Velcro straps called "pants savers" or "trouser savers." The are inexpensive, adjustable, and come with a reflective stripe. Cost is only 4 to 5 bucks for a pair.

bicycle clips..round spring clips that clamp your trouser bottoms to your ankles...sounds painful? save cutting off your circulation and money by tucking your trousers into your socks!!
