We adopted him Nov 29th 06. but all his paper work says is that he's 4months, retriever/lab mix and for coloring - brindle. so if thats all he is where did that brindle come from? my bro says pitbull. Also what about those ears? they don't look pit or lab. My cousin said they looked like a shepherds. So I am thinking maybe hes retriever/lab/pitbull/shep mix.

I am trying to get an idea of his breeds so I can train him the best possible way and maybe get an idea as to what he might be like as he gets older.

He is very laid back. learns fast. is housebroken. doesn't bark. very friendly with people and other pets.

So I am wondering if the breeds i listed seem right on? or if maybe someone thinks something else. .Also if so do you think those breeds mix togther are good? I heard dogs like pits mixed with dogs proven to guarding like sheps are bad? any truth?
Here are a few pics of him.

this is not a retriever lab mix that is so obvious.
If you adopted him from a shelter they are not always correct on the breeds i have learned that from experiance.

From what i could tell he looks like a shep/pit mix OR shep/boxer mix. The colors seem to come from the boxer or pit. I have a boxer that has the same colors as this one but he is boxer/pit. The ears seem to me more of the boxer before the ears are cropped and the jaw line looks to be more of the boxer. Bot like i said it could be pit also, as the jawline on a pit and boxer are similar.
But definately not retriever/lab mix that is for sure

So sweet! To me he looks to be a shep/american pit bull terrier mix. I woke my husband up to look (LOL) and he thought she was more of a staffordshire terrier/shepard mix.

The most important thing with ANY dog is to be the leader of the pack. You need to be the alpha.

has some great books, they've been printing animal books for more than 50 years. The book we got for our American Pit Bull Terrier is a wonderful source.

Get him fixed if he's not already, socialize him, take him to training classes (petsmart has some good ones, and they keep the class sizes small which is important) Make sure he gets plenty of excercise. I'm sure he will make a great companion for life. Congratulations you are a pet parent! The very fact you are here asking these questions shows you want to educate yourself about your dog and training. So you are way ahead of a lot of people!

Bully breeds LOVE to please people they just have a bad rap.

Your dog is a mix, no one could be sure of the breeds it took to create it. A vet can only guess. My guess is there is some pitt in it due to the brindle on the coat. BUT as I said only a guess. It is not a breed but mixture of breeds.

Definitely looks like pit is there and possibly some boxer with the squarish nose and ears. Pretty cool looking dog for a pit mix. (Personally, I am not crazy about pits. Bad experience with a kitty. :-( Good luck with your new friend.)

Sheppard, ABD (American Bull Dog) research the ABD prior to training. Mine is mixed with abd and pitty. He is a total lovebug! Likes to be carried around like a baby....

Very good dog, he is a great and deserve a good home!!!
I see a combination of two purebreds, exactly, it is a American Pit Bull Terrier and German Shepherd. ...He is so ugly, he is cute!
Genuinely care about your dog. Keep him clean! Give he good training, your love...
