I need to save a scene in Maya to jpg format. So it can be viewed in paint or other picture viewer softwares

You can try using a free screen capture program like Wisdom-soft Screenhunter. A hotkey of your choice (F5 by default) will cause a crosshair cursor to appear, and you drag it diagonally to frame the area you want to capture, or just set it to capture the entire screen.
You basically get a snapshot of the screen at the time you capture the scene.
One of the choices automatically saves the file to a .jpg format.

I imagine there are lots of other programs like it but this one's my favorite.

Hi,

If Maya has printing capabilities you can install a PDF printer and print your specific page to PDF and then open the PDF file with Adobe Photo Shop and save the file in JPG format.
