if the porpuse of invasion is oil , why not secure only the oil fields , and let the shiite and sunni fight its other , no casualties for GI , no negative public opinion for BUSH

The answer is because the war is not over oil. If it were for oil then simply would have captured and fortified the oil fields. We are trying to set up a stable democracy in Iraq. Unfortunately, the President, those around him, and beyond miscalculated on the aspect of sectarian violence, which is what the majority of the violence that currently is going on in Iraq is, and that is concentrated, mostly in Baghdad.

Without an Iraqi government US will look even MORE like an invading force.

They are placing they selves in "harms-way" in the hope they can be a buffer? between the fighting factions?....and save some lives in the process ;
