Scientific:

Toucans are near passerine birds from the neotropics. The family includes six genera and about 40 species. They are resident breeders and do not migrate. Toucans are usually found in pairs or small flocks.

Neotropics= biogeographical area bordered in the north by the dry areas in Mexico and the southern states of the United States. Southern Florida is part of the neotropics. This is not to be confused with the "Neotropic ecozone", which has a different usage entirely.

Pop-culture:

Toucans were used to advertise Guinness stout (using the slogan 'See what toucan do'), and many collectables such as postcards and models with Guinness toucans on them may be found. Toucan Sam is the mascot of Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal. Y107 in Nashville used a "Tookie Bird" as their mascot.

There is a European phone company called Toucan. Toucan is part of IDT Telecom, a subsidiary of global telecoms provider IDT Corp.

A humorous derivation of the name of the bird features in David McKee's children's book "Two Can Toucan".

"Wulffmorgenthaler" comic strip features a character named 'Toucan kid', who is an offspring of a human and a toucan.

Tookie Tookie, George's pet Toucan from "George of the Jungle."

The character Lupe Toucan from "My Gym Partner's a Monkey"

Believe it or not, the Toucan bird has been flying around the Central and South American rainforests for a lot longer than any cereal company.

As others have said, Toucans are found in Central and South America. Here is a link to a photograph my husband took of a Chestnut-mandibled Toucan in southern Ecuador last week,

They are very interesting birds, eating fruits, insects and even other birds. They are not appropriate pets, as they have extremely difficult diets and are prone to a condition where they retain too much iron.

The toucans are a South- and Central American family of birds. The smallest is the jay-sized toucanet, and the largest is the chicken-sized toco.
--No, they do NOT live in Madagascar!

hahahaha to the people above me if youre looking for a pet they are extremely exotic (hard to find a vet that knows how to care for a tuca if they were to get sick) and expensive and only available through a handful of private breeders. You can more than likely find these people online
