The name reveals the identity, but the identity is not in the name.---------Al is my "real" name, but I am Sunman.(for now) Al is my outer identity, Sunman is my inner identity. " When the inner becomes like the outer, and the outer becomes like the inner....." Gospel of Thomas.

My nickname was given to me a few years ago by a dear friend of mine, she always calls me 'angel', and never by my name. She gave me 'fugitive angel' as a nickname because she believes I'm an angel who ran away from Heaven to help people;)...Obviously I don't believe to be so special, I'm just an average person who loves to be there for other people, and who actually often 'runs away' from a superficial, appearently perfect and easy world, to solve or help solve some people's real problems and share all I have;)
Why not use someone's real name? Because your name doesn't reflect what you believe, neither tells people more about who you really are, especially when all you can use to communicate is a keyboard;)

I guess we could use our real names. I can explain a few of my names:
"Pongun," my ebay handle, was the surname of a character I used to role-play back in college.
"Geeloeeloee," my standard Yahoo name for mail and such, is also a character I once played. It's also a real pain to spell for people over the phone.
"Wood_Vulture," the name you're currently seeing me under, is a habit I've developed, whereby I collect scraps and arrange them into compositions. In a sense, you could almost say I collect information, then vomit it onto the screen to clear up people's questions. Vulture stomachs can kill any disease, so their vomit might be quite clean coming out.
Hope that helps a bit.

Because the psychos would hunt us down and kill us. Also, according to the Associated Press, many employers are doing searches for job applicants' names on Myspace, Friendster, and other popular blogs (achem, Yahoo).

I could use my real name, as it is very popular. I find the avatars and pictures more intriguing though.
My real name is Kim

Because anonymity makes us braver. Besides, using a pseudonym can be like putting on a mask; we can pretend to be something we're not. And yes, I AM weary. And it's a long story, so don't ask.

Well people started using screen names because it helped with the repitition of names problem. It is interesting, I agree. Also what avatars people pick is fascinating.
I picked my screen name because its funny and nerdy.
