My scalp gets really dry and itchy in the winter, and tonight
it's driving me crazy! I can't sleep, and it's almost midnight.
What I want to do is pour a bath and get some medicated shampoo on my head,
but I live in an apartment, and I'm pretty sure the neighbours can hear the water running
in my unit (I can hear the guy upstairs peeing when I'm in my bedroom!) What should I do?
PS: I can't do it in the sink cause I've got a back problems, and leaning over the sink would be torture.

Thanks everyone. I did take my bath. (My scalp feels way better!) Actually, it was more or less a hypothetical question, as the water was already running when I posted the question. Guess I was just feeling guilty about it. The management here has this "One noise complaint and you're gone" policy, and some of my neighbours seem kinda uptight.

Heck with the neighbors, you pay your rent, take a bath. It is not like you are having a party..

Take a bath. Neighbors can't complain about that! But if you really want to be good, take some medicated shampoo on a cotton and dab it on your scalp. Leave it there for two hours or so. Then, take some lukewarm water in a mug and use cotton again to rub off the shampoo from the scalp. That should work for the night. Take an early bath in the morning and wash off shampoo well.

Speaking for myself, I can usually sleep through the sound of running water. I'd say as long as you're not splashing around too much or making a lot of other noise, and as long as you don't do this every night, your neighbors probably won't be too bothered. I think they're fortunate to have a considerate neighbor like you. If you think they were bothered you can always apologize and explain that it was more or less a medical emergency.
I'm sorry you're uncomfortable. I hope you feel better soon.

I think you should take the bath. Most people are asleep at this time and the running water shouldn't wake them up. It's your right to be able to take a bath anytime you'd like. After all, I'm sure many people there take showers at 6 am or earlier and I would be more likely to be woken up unhappily at 6 am than midnight. Overall, don't fret it. If someone complains, take that into consideration.

If they are asleep already, they'll never hear the water running. Call it a medical problem, and medicate that poor scalp of yours. Mine is doing the same thing, and I live in friggin' California! Believe me, Head N Shoulders is no match for my scaly head. Pull out that Neutrogena T-Gel and go for it!

As far as the neighbors, f*** them. Meanwhile, take a quick shower, and don't rinse all of that shampoo out. Then promptly crank up the Marilyn Manson and start moshing with 100 of your closest friends.

it does not mean that if you take a bath in a midnight is a bad ettiquette because you do it for your own good just to sleep well. its not big deal if others say that it is a bad habit because you know the reason why you are doing that.

I hope you don't hear about it in the morning! I would have suggested putting some baby oil on your scalp until morning and then washing it out. Anyhow, glad the itch is gone.

Well...just do it and then tomorrow go to your neighbor and apologize for the noise explaining why you couldn't help taking a bath at that late hour;)
