The recipe I use at work and at home:

1 1/2 oz of brandy

5 oz hot water

Tsp honey

2 lemon slices

1 Cinnamon stick

add the honey to the hot water and stir. Drop in cinnamon stick. Add brandy. Squeeze lemon. Allow a minute or two for the cinnamon stick to impart a little flavor, and enjoy.

Obviously, if you like it more or less sweet, alter the honey amount, if you like it more or less citrus-y alter the amount of lemon.
As far as what kind of brandy, I think Calvados (french apple brandy) makes a butt-kickingly good hot toddy. It smells like honey, cinnamon and apple (very yummy). I also suggest Chalfonte VSOP cognac for this recipe. It is an inexpensive cognac that has fabulous vanilla and chocolate notes. Also very yummy.

Start out with three quaters a mug of water. Add a few whoopin good squuezes of honey (it should be a lot sweeter than you would take tea). Take the juice of half a lemon. Both halves if you like it puckerin tart. Then fill it up with Brandy or whisky.
You wont care if you have a cold after you drink it.

Tea, limes, honey, sugar, and brandy.

I heat the tea up, then wait for the kettle to whistle and pour in the water and a teaspoon of sugar, then I pour in some honey and sweeten it to my liking, next I squeeze half a lime in the mix and had enough brandy to knock me out.

Real limes or lemons work better then the juice. Enjoy!
