as long as you take precautions its fine. use a heat protection product (like serum or something) and deep condition and you should be fine. Also use a good one, because ceramic and others help make your hair shiny.

Harsh heat is very damaging to hair just like the Sun's UV rays. There are ways of preparing your hair for the hot iron like serums.
I say the best way to calm and smooth your hair down is with
your shampoo/conditioner. You can't use a cheap brand. Trust me. You'll want to go with Biosilk, Paul Mitchell Smoothing (Super Skinny), etc. My clients have had lots of success with Biosilk and Paul Mitchell as shampoos and conditioners to help smooth out hair. I also recommend a leave-in conditioner such as Matrix - Biolage Smoothing Balm. This will get your hair naturally smoother without flat ironing it. Wash/condition once every 3 days. I know these products are expensive compared to the non-salon quality brands but it's worth it!
After that, use a ceramic iron on mild. If you've been using cheap shampoos/conditioners, you'll see a huge difference once you switch!

With use of heat on hair all the time is bad 2 to 3 times a week I don't think is as bad, use Dove intense moisture shampoo/conditioner and Dove smooth and soft anti frizz cream , and the Conair Infiniti 100% solid ceramic flat iron it is better for hair also has a 5 year warranty all of this works great for me. also use Biolage ultra hydrating balm and infusium 23 leave in treatment.

Try a flat iron that uses steam rather than only heat and use a really good conditioner before hand so that your hair is well hydrated. You shouldn't use it everyday but this stuff should help.
Oh, yeah you can buy the flat iron at a drug store or at places like Wal-Mart --just look for steam not heat
and........
also make sure that it's made of porcelain, not some sort of metal.
Good Luck!
I use this kind myself, for the exact same reason.

if you use a fab product to go with that straightening iron than it wont ruin your hair, like everything if you take precautions you wont have repercussions.. Get something that is heat activated so it coats your hair with a protective film.. Try REDKEN Smooth Down Heat Glide, not only will this help straighten your hair and keep it straight it will protect it from heat damage. also use a good shampoo and conditioner, that helps too. good luck.

well i can give u to examples and leave the judgement to u...i have beautiful curly hair...most of the time i leave it that way, but sometimes i straighten it with a straightener i use it about 2 times a week or more!!! my hair if perfectly healthy...now my friend on the other hand has curly hair too...she straighten her hair EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! only leaves it curly when she wakes up late.... and her hair is pretty damaged and grows very slow because of her split ends....so i would say use it but dont make it an everyday thing :D

IT WILL NOT RUIN YOUR HAIR JUST AS LONG AS YOU PROTECT IT. They make Thermasilk and the products like it to protect your hair against the extreme heat. If your iron is ceramic this also does help. I use mousse on my hair before I blowdry and iron. I love the shine. :)

I used to use a straightner, those cheap and non-ceramic kind from walmart, well it damaged my hair after months of constant use. Had a lot split ends after and my hair got really dry. I had to get a haircut because my hair was really bad. I'd suggest using ceramic ones, expensive but worth it.

of course it does. nowadays they re making ceramic irons, they say they re less harmful, also u can use some products protecting hair against hot, but hair become greasy very fast after. but yes, if u use hot iron without any protective products for hair they will become frizzy and dull
