No, Joseph S. There is indeed a saying that goes, "No good deed goes unpunished and has been attributed to various people including Clare Booth Luce and Oscar Wilde. I suspect that whoever said it did so with "Tongue in Cheek". It simply means that people are not always appreciated or understood for their good deeds. That often some people accuse others of doing good for the wrong reasons and speak ill of the person and his deed.

The phrase is supposed to go, "No good deed goes unnoticed" meaning in the eyes of God. I think it is a Christian saying...
If some one said, "No good deed goes unpunished" they probably just made a mistake.
