Just so you know...

I drive a Prius
I am an epidemiologist

My point is that global warming take time, whereas a virus could act very quickly, especially in increasingly dense populations.

Global warming is happening NOW. Ice caps are melting and heavily populated areas will be flooded, displacing millions of people. Weather patterns are changing, killing even more people with severe weather. That movie by Al Gore provides a good overview (An Inconvenient Truth or something?)

We can try to discover medicines to deal with superbugs. The planet is a bit harder to fix quickly.

I am pretty sure everyone knows the Earth will end eventually. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't care about it. The point isn't to prolong the Earth's existence, but to prolong the existence of the creatures and habitats that inhibit the Earth. In other words, yes, the Earth will blow up in a bazillion years from now. But does that mean we should just let our society die? That we shouldn't give our children a chance to view the world at least partially as we have? The sun may destroy the Earth, but basically, people worried about Global Warming are worried about the people living on the Earth. Global warming can kill everyone off pretty soon, whereas the sun won't for quite a while! Think about it.

The expected effects of global warming are many and various, both for the environment and for human life. These effects include sea level rise, repercussions to agriculture, reductions in the ozone layer, increased intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, and the spread of disease. In some cases, the effects may already be manifest, although it is difficult to attribute specific incidents of natural phenomena to long-term global warming. Since the mid-1970s, the total annual power of hurricanes has increased markedly because their average intensity and duration have increased; in addition, there has been a high correlation of hurricane power with tropical sea-surface temperature[35][1]. In spite of such strong evidence, the relationship between global warming and hurricanes is still being debated. [36][37] A draft statement by the World Meteorological Organization acknowledges the differing viewpoints on this issue [38].

The extent and probability of these consequences is a matter of considerable uncertainty. A summary of probable effects and recent understanding can be found in the report of the IPCC Working Group II [39]. Some scientists have concluded global warming is already causing death and disease across the world through flooding, environmental destruction, heat waves and other extreme weather events.

Renewable energy is not just for those who are concerned about global warming. It can also be for those who want a better residential investment

The key to bringing renewable energy to suburban America is to communicate the concept of how progressive technology combined with innovative architectural design can provide a lower monthly cost of ownership. For example, most people finance their home through a mortgage. If you design a house that will reduce your monthly utility bills by $150 while only increasing your monthly mortgage payment by $50 dollars, you will save money from the day you move in, although your home actually costs more. It’s all about combining the best design practices with sound financial strategies. Check out zeroenergy.com

We may or we may not. No one knows but what we do know is that we have to keep trying to do what we can do now. That is reduce our impact on global warming...reduce greenhouse gas emmissions and find new ways to generate energy without or with less harmful consequences. About the superflu virus, we don't know anything about it yet so it can't be prevented, that is why we are more focused on Global Warming.

One of the possible effects of global warming could very well be a super flu.

Everything on the planet is connected in many ways.

Global warming is like a ship we all are riding on that is drifting lazily in the river above Niagara Falls. Everything seems fine, drifting along at a slow pace wih much more crucial issues on our minds.

That, or a nuclear holocaust. One nuclear submarine can eliminate millions of lives, and there are hundreds of these submarines in the water right now.

Global warming is a worry to people who think humanity is still salvageable. A person who has kids can't claim to be unconcerned about global warming. I mean, their kids will have to deal with it.

I think we will be saved, but not by our own ideas.

Well, skin cancer and the sun burning us to death sounds more painful. At least a flu might make us delirious or half-gone. With global warming, you're 100% awake. Bah, whatever. I couldn't care less about the end of the world.

this is so because the polar caps are melting right now. there is a rise in annual temperature every year. the polar caps are melting which means extinction of species such as polar bears, penguins etc. also there will be floods everywhere. there are changes experienced everywhere, in some areas droughts are occuring and in some areas there is severe flloding. does this answer ur question?
