A question that we are concerned about a lot now a days.
As for China, look around it is already an economic threat. Its military is strong but its over seas power is still questionable. China holds a lot and I mean a lot of US treasury bills and if it decides to dump them US will be hurt severely. China is also causing the world wage to go down while it keeps on increasing its wages. China is also becoming the next major market and often major markets bring power along with them. So the Chinese threat is not that far off. However, if you see something as a threat, your paranoia will sooner or later make it reality. So if the US makes hostile relation with China then it will be a threat otherwise it might be a helpful ally.
As for the Soviets they still have some way to go. They are try to regain their once feared power but I think it will take some time. They do have the weapons but I don't think that can solely help them become a major threat.

The only possible threat I can see is nuclear weapons.
True, some of these weapons are not known where they exist.
Even the nuclear weapons supposedly under tight control could one day be mismanaged and cause catastrophe.
It seems more a question of time rather if.
With proliferation of nuclear weapons, in time something has to go seriously wrong.
The world would be a hell of a lot safer had all players come together in sincerely, revealed their stockpiles and decided to break them apart simultaneously.
Since this can't possibly happen, it seems highly possible that something will go wrong one day, and that can weak havoc of the magnitude nobody can predict.
Now, to get back to your question...I can see where the world could be dominated by big economic players, and not necesarily countries.
I can see where big financial institutions will control the world one day, and become, in essence, powerful corporations that run governments.
Just watch all those mergers going on, and you'll see what I mean.

why worrying "threats" from other countries? are Americans too used to dominating the world?...
China doesn't really care IMO...as far as i can tell Chinese people simply enjoy getting richer (but China still has a really big problem of the huge gap between the rich and the poor..) and living their lives. Yes they might pose a "threat" to the american businesses but Chinese people hate wars and certainly would avoid wars (since you mentioned weapons) at all costs....look at the chinese history for the past few hundred years - since the Qing dynasty China has always been the one who was defeated (by Japan and Britain etc) and they would only defend themselves on their own land but not trying to take over the others.
My bet is China would try her best to stay good friends with the US because if she didn't keep this friend, who else would buy her exporting goods?

Yes..especially Russia. Putin has already made an economic and political alliance with Iran,...and both China and Russia has recently voted against imposing sanctions on Iran (during a recent UN gathering).

I not think China will be a threat. True we not want to step on their toes, but, with Wal-Wort, IBM etc. buying much or their products as much of the world, they probably not worry. Now what they do, is provide military resources to other small countries to keep an Ace in the hole, similar to what America do.

China and Russia are booming economically. When money is available, the said countries might strengthen their military and challenge the US for superiority in the future.

Nope. Neither country is an inventor of new technology. Russia and China are close to nill on filing patents. Russia is an oil junkie and China just copies stolen technology. Neither country can really pose any threat because neither country can harness the creative potential of its people. All they can do is harness the agressive potential of its people and that is really not enough to overcome a creative foe who can come at you sideways with his creativity.
