How did you go about choosing it?

Start by figuring out what you love. Then turn that into a tattoo.
I dint remember much about my father but I do remember he had a dragon tattoo on his arm. I had to get one too. I came up with the design idea and the artist put it together. They can do that. You can also bring a pic of something and they can trace it or put it into a bigger pic or what ever you want. Just find a passion for something.

My first tat, I got done when I was 14 by a kid with a home made gun.It was chosen by what he could do. It's a heart with a knife going through it and my own name wrapped around it. We only used new needles for all you people about to have a fit.(Not recommended) My second one, I was about 16 and I did it myself. with a needle and ink. It's the letter B. It was for a boy, I know stupid, right.(Also, not recommended) The third, was to cover up my do it yourself project. I was 18 and got this one done right. It's barbwire going all the way around my ankle, with roses in it. I told the guy what I wanted and he drew it. Forth, My son's name on my ring finger, above my wedding band. To show that my children come first even before my husband. Fifth, my second son's name in Chinese on the back of my neck. I chose this just to be a little different then the rest. My husband also got our boys names in the same spots. I wouldn't recommend getting tats on your hands because they have a tendency to fade or distort. Just make sure that you are happy with the design before they start. You will have it for a long time, so make sure that it is EXACTLY what you want.

Chose a tattoo that means something to you. Either about the situation you are going through now or a certain event in your past that you want to remember. I got my tattoo to symbolize the bond between my sister and I.

i knew what i wanted, so i emailed my tattoo artist a picture (not a picture of a tattoo but a picture of the object that i wanted) and he created a custom tattoo for me based on the description i gave him along with the photo. custom tattoo artists are really great at coming up with tattoo designs that will blow your mind. but my tattoos mean something to me and that is why i chose the designs in the first place.

You must do the choosing and it should be a welll thought out process because that tattoo will be there the rest of your life.

you should have the artist draw what you want first so you can be sure you like his/her work.

I got my first one in rememberance of my baby that I lost. It was a simple tribal heart in two pieces. My second tattoo, is of a lizard on my left sholder(the start of a sleeve). I got that one because my brother used to call me lizard when I was little. And my third tattoo is of a cat on my left leg. My boyfriend drew the picture the night we got our cat. My boyfriend is my tattoo artist, so he drew my other ones as well. Look at my myspace to see my tattoos. www.myspace.com/amethystrain219

It's up to you. Whatever your imagination comes up with. You can go to a parlor and see what designs are available or search all available media until your find a design you like. You remember that the design has to be on the bold line side for reproduction on your body.
My sleeves were the product of my tattooists imagination. I let him come up with the design. I wanted Japanese style dragons and he came up with the overall style. Make sure that you find someone that you feel comfortable with and is clean above everything else.

now this is a tough decision, trust me i know from experience and i only have one!
now think of things you like, or nick names you may have had...
i have cherry's on my ankle because my nick name growing up was cherry pie...
now the next tattoo i want is a lotus flower, which i have loved since i was little too, it represents alot to me, including my love for the flower...
make sure it's personal, something that you can elaborate on, i asked a guy once what his tattoos meant and he said "i just thought they'd look cool"
ew right...
good luck in choosing...

First I spent 20 years thinking about it. Then I chose a Celtic knotwork star because of my Irish heritage.
I have several memorial tattoos that are very special, also.
