What a shame it took me about a year to meet up with my cousin. We simply lost touch! unbelievable!

Tomorrow is her daughter's birthday... nobody forgets that.
I don't know what to buy for her..

When I turned two, my favorite presents were Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls that my mom made for me. I have a picture of me sitting in my Grandpa's big recliner with the dolls on either side of me. I still have the dolls. When my niece turns 2, I will give her a pair of the dolls. When my daughter turned two, I bought her a big baby doll with plastic arms, legs and head but cloth body at a yard sale. My mom sewed up the holes and made my daughter and the doll matching dresses so that was always my daughter's favorite gift.
Beyond that, non - toxic playdough is great and there are some classic books that kids that age enjoy: WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, GOODNIGHT MOON, and MOO, BAA, OOH, LA LA, are all great choices. Another thing that kids this age love are rhythm instruments - you can get them in a set with a drum, tambourine, cymbals and maracas.

My niece turned two last month. For her birthday she got tons of clothes (it's fun to pick out girl clothes at that age. Everything is so cute). She's into dora the explorer, so she got a few dora dolls, dora chair, dora backpack. She also got a kitchen set because she loves playing cook and always wants to cook eggs. She also got disney dvds, books, and learning toys.

If you want to get a toy, look on the box it comes in. It usually tells you what age range the toy is for.

I have a 2 year old girl and she loves anything Dora. Or the Littlest Pet Shop figures. (but those are kinda small so if you don't know the child well you don't want to present a choking hazard). Baby Dolls are always good and so are stuffed animals.

Bratz Dolls!! My daughter is obsessed with Bratz. And you know what we got her 5 dolls for Christmas. And the worst bit is uniting all of those bits that hold the hair, shoes etc down lol.

If not brats some educational toys. Puzzles with heaps of colours and shapes are good ideas.

Kids can be so tricky sometimes. I'm so glad i have the benefit of really knowing my little brother like I do... which makes it pretty easy to know what he'll like best.

Then again, at 2 years old, I think the gift is more about impressing the parent than the child. If I were you, I'd talk to your cousin and try to find out if there's anything the baby needs... and go that route. It sounds like you guys don't spend too much time together, and even though it ruins the surprise, it's a considerate and tactful way to go.

And I still wish you'd talk to me. What do I have to do?

We got my daughter the Melissa and Doug cutting food set for her second birthday. She loves it! You may or may not be able to find it at Toys R Us (even though it's on their website). Small independent toy stores will have it. Look up toy stores in your yellow pages.
