Quitting is not always a bad thing. If you know that something isn't right for you or you tried something and it didn't work out then quitting is an option. I think the word "quit" has a bad connotation. You have to put things in perspective. For something like school you don't just quit because it's difficult, you keep going, keep trying. But for things less important sometimes it's best to "quit while you're ahead".

This very much reminds me of why do 'overlook' and 'oversee' have opposite meanings. I think that 'quit while you are still ahead' means not to get too ambitious for your own good, nor too greedy.

it's about quitting while you're at your prime.
people do this, especially in basketball or in boxing to make sure their records won't be tarnished by a humiliating loss.

BECAUSE IF YOU QUIT WHILE YOUR AHEAD YOU HAVENT LOST. MAYBE NOT WON BY AS MUCH AND PEOPLE MAY ALWAYS REFER TO YOU AS ARA PARSEGIAN, BUT THATS WHAT WINNING, EXCUSE ME, NOT LOSING IS ALL ABOUT.
GOD BLESS
