As to the rank issue: yes, he could be telling the truth. A person with a college degree or significant prior experience pins on an E-3 leaving BMT. That's the rank right below staff sergeant. (incorrect info: please see my edit)

As to his being in control of the plane: Patent Crap. The mission commander for an aircraft is always the pilot, and the pilot is the ranking officer... sorry, but you can tell your friend that the boom operate pumps gas but doesn't tell the plane where to go.

EDIT: Ah, crap, that's right. Being right below SSgt would mean he's an E-4 (since Airman Basic is an E-1, not an E-0). Either way, with a college degree he'd still come in with up to 3 stripes. At the same time, he's definately not already a crew cheif and even if he were, the Mission Commander STILL has ultimate control of the plane.

If he was in ROTC in high school, has a little college, one or two years he could possibly be a Senior Airman, and E-3, but not an E-4 which is a staff Sergent, you have to take a test for this and you can't take the test till you have been in for three years.. What he says about the plane has some truth, but he is not telling all the facts...Sounds like he is going to be a crew chief....He does have control of the plane in the sense that he makes the decision if the plane can fly or not...He can ground the plane if it has mechanical, electrical, hydraulic problems, hence he determines if it can be flown by the pilot, but that is his only control over the pilot.....Also rank determines if you have control over a plane, and I believe depending on the manpower they have that someone right out of technical school would not have the final decision. There will be a crew chief with higher ranking that will make the decisions if the plane cannot be repaired in time for the scheduled flight....Hope this helps clear up some things....

i've got been retired from the Air stress for 9 years now. I spent the final 10 years as an AF Recruiter. i would be unable to bear in mind that a 6 12 months enlistment selection replaced into available for each individual. there are particular profession fields which will require lots of coaching and the AF will attempt to recoop the money spent on that training with you working for them for a 6 12 months era or enlistment. With the war occurring, the AF would desire to have stepped up their incentive courses to incorporate offering 6 12 months enlistment to greater profession fields and offering greater $ bonuses. With that selection, the sole element it would provide you is extra rank which equates to $. In a document that I even have in simple terms examine: historic archives and tendencies point out 6-12 months enlistees have a larger propensity to reenlist upon final touch of their preliminary term of enlistment. That stated, the AF would desire to be utilising the 6 12 months enlistment to greater improve it incredibly is already severe retention costs.

SSgt is E-5, no way is he even close to that or SrA/E-4 after being out of BMT for a couple months. As for being in charge of a plane he probably is a crew chief. He wont be close to being in charge of the plane until he gets his 5 skill level.

First what was his rank when he joined? But you can tell your friend that her boyfriend is feeding her lines. No you do not get promoted that fast. First he would have to finish bootcamp and then head on to the school that will train him on his job that he signed up for and if he is active airforce then he would have to report to his duty station and then he would start to make rank by time and grade and sometimes by promotion point depending on what rank up are getting. No matter what branch of military you are in you would have to go to a board to get promoted and you have to go to some kind of leadership school.

It is absolutely true. Don't believe any of these goofballs that say it's not true. Now, come over here and take a look at this bridge I got for sale. It's real cheap.

No... not even close. The Officer is in charge of the plane 100% anyways.

No it's not possible. Your friend is either making this up, or is being told tall-tales by her boyfriend. It is impossible for him to be at NCO rank this early. And given that he's not out of school yet, it is WAY IMPOSSIBLE for him to be a "Crew Chief."

Somebody is pulling somebody's leg. Don't fall for it. It's a bunch of nonsense.

I THINK HE IS TRYING TO IMPRESS YOU AND ALSO TELLING TALL TALES, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE WANTS TO ACCOMPLISH BY THIS, MAYBE IF THE JETS HAVE KEYS JUST LIKE AN AUTOMOBILE, MAYBE HE IS THE KEY KEEPER AND NOBODY ELSE CAN FLY IT WITHOUT HIM GIVING THEM THE KEYS BUT THAT IS NOT SO.
