Occassionaly my chihuahua gets some seizures and he starts trying to breath heavily. He starts shaking and freezes up like he's really scared. I have asked the vet and he said it was normal and that the breathing part was actually sneezing. Has anyone had the same problem with their chihuahua ?

She either has epilepsy or hypoglycemia they're both very common in chihuahuas. I've had two chihuahuas that had both ... You NEED to get it to the vet immediately! With hypoglycemia they're blood sugar drops which can cause seizures and you usually have to give them something like Karo or maple syrup to get their sugar back up. Usually a healthy diet will stop this. With Epilepsy, the dog HAS to be on medications otherwise they will die very quickly. It's a constant regime of medication and blood testing and care and is very hard to cope with and is extremely expensive. I recently had my beautiful baby chihuahua die of epilepsy so I know first hand how hard it is ... I've also fostered 50+ chi's and own 3 ...

Did the vet call it reverse sneezing? It is a common Chihuahua traiat. Not a seizure unless he is doing the sneezing and the seizures are something else. Chihuahuas can have seizures due to epilepsy, hydrocephalus, or hypoglycenia, but I think what you are referring to us the reverse sneezing.

They do this. It is like they are unable to get their breath and hacks and coughs. Ours does it too, but it is not a seizure exactly. She does it if she gets overly excited about something. It will take her a couple of minutes to get over it.

It isn`t hilarious for the dog. They cannot get their breath.

shaking in chihuahuas is common but seizures is not. It probably looks like seizures to you but it is not.

It is not NORMAL, but it seems to be common. Seek a second oppinion from a vet, there may be something you can do to help your chi.
