Hey Tara,

Finding someone's death records, obituraries, cemetary, wills, and or probate are what you need to do. The Family Search site may help with a Death Date. You can get Obits from the library near where the death occured, scanning the papers and/or with the librarians help. Librarians do this over the phone too.

Death Certificates are farily easy to get, if you know the date of death, location, and name of deceased. Anyway, here are some web sites to help you with what I mentioned also.

Be sure to post your questions here when you get specifics, about who, where, when and need help.

Hey there,

I would say that the best place to check if someone has died would be the Social Security Death Index. It is a free site and you don't have to know the state. You can search by name. The SSDI tells you the following information

Name
Date of Birth
Date of Death
Place of last benefit
State the Social Security # was issued.

Go to this link and give it a try.

The best part is that it is a free search. If the person had a really common name, it might help to know something other than their name, like a date of birth.

Good luck and I hope that you find what you are looking for.'

Blessings.

Have you tried just typing the person's name into a search engine? The death record usually will come up.
