Hi there...cats love to chase their tails because it's fun and entertaining. It's also cute for us to watch too.

Here's a poem I hope you will enjoy about a cats tale of tails.

I can't seem to figure out why my tail follows me around.
It is there when I eat, it is there when I drink. It is there when I play and it gets in the way.

When I am running and trying to climb the wall, I see it out of the corner of my eye. It is striped and looks like a snake. I stop dead in my tracks and turn, but it isn't there. When I turn in a circle, it is sometimes there.

Sometimes it curls over my head and touches my ears. I hate it when it does that. Some day maybe when I am older, I will catch it while it is spying on me. When I sleep it sleeps and when I rest it rests. I wonder if I am the only one this happens to. Maybe all kitties have a tail like mine. Maybe their tails chase them too. A lot of times when I am getting into mischief or doing things I shouldn't be doing, I think it tells on me, because it see's everything I do and it just sits there and watches. My favorite thing to do is climb on freshly folded laundry and instead of giving me balance, it makes mine worse because me and the laundry end up on the floor and then I have to run and hide.... to my surprise it follows me.

Yesterday I was running while playing and I saw it following me, when I looked back to see if it was there, I ran smack into my litter box and fell over. Jeesh, it is always causing trouble for me, but I guess I am somewhat attached to it.

Cats actually don't have a lot of feeling in their tails so when the bat at it or see it flicker, it is as if it isn't attached to them. I have a Siamese who used to entertain herself for hours by running in circles chasing her tail. Unfortunately she had a tumor and had to have her tail removed, but for about 6 months she still chased "it". Not sure why that was...phantom wriggles of her memory? I have found my more intelligent cats don't find their tails mesmerizing, so maybe your cat has just the right amount of dingy and sass to make that tail seem irresistable! It's cute and nonetheless and 12 years of tail chasing never hurt my kitty...in fact I think she really misses it to the point of chomping on my other "tailed" kitties appendage everytime she passes by...tail envy's a *****!

My little boy just started chasing his tail the other day (he's 5 months old). He doesn't just slowly run in circles chasing it, he's like a little speed demon running after it.

I don't know why he chases his tail, but I'm sure it's fun and entertaining for him, I know it is for me. It's pretty amusing to watch, so I just sit back and enjoy the show.

My cats don't do that. I've never seen a cat chase it's tail. I've seen dogs do it.

the two one in each of my cats try this- that's humorous as heck to observe. They get mad at me when I snort by ability of butt off at them however. My aunt's cat began licking her fur off whilst my grandpa died- so if there have been any vast modifications in her existence (relatives member died or moved away, or maybe you in basic terms moved or extra a guy or woman to the relatives, and so on), it might desire to easily be her way of managing the strain. yet whilst no longer something like that is going on and he or she's been cleared for fleas/ticks/and so on, she's probable fantastic- in basic terms being stupid. :)

Kitten will do it because they want to play with anything that moves. It takes a while for them to establish the boundaries of their own physical being and realise they can control this marvelous moving presence.
