i think at least 2 wks is fine. If they are on the other side of the world or USA, then 3-4 wks. I send cards to people that never send me one. I want them to know that I am thinking about them and still wish them a merry Christmas. I'm sure one year they will surprise you. Don't ever lower yourself to someone else's low level. "Be the better man".

They are meant for xmas (although I personally prefer "Season's greetings", then I don't have to worry about faith or countries...). You have to make sure they get there in time for the start of the Holidays, say by the 23rd... So the actual mailing them depends on how long you expect the post office to work...
Within the US, it is about one week. If you have to send cards overseas, count on 2 or 3 weeks.

Before that, it is overkilling. After, the cards will arrive too late, and it will look like you are sending "afterthoughts"....

I usually send them the first week in December if not by the second week. You don't have to send ANYONE a card if you don't want to. Including your Nlaws but it would show you as the better person if you did. If you wanted to be mean you could also include a self-addressed stamped envelope in your card so that they could get the hint to mail you one. If they still don't then you can easily write them off of your Christmas card list.

As soon as the holiday season starts, and right up to the last day you can mail it, and still have it get there.
The post office encourages people to send early, they have a publication that gives the dates for letters and packages for oversea and the US . They do not want you to wait until the last minute, they want the recipient to get the mailing, and they do not want to pay overtime to their workers to get that done.
It is up to you who you want to send to, there is no obligation to send to those who do not send to you. I have relatives who do not send at all, never have. And they have relatives and friends who work for the postal service! Hmmm, takes all kinds.
It is nice of you to send to cards, even if you do not get one back, very Christmas of you!

I would say that it would be premature to send Christmas cards earlier than December. I personally do not bother with Christmas cards, I think they are a waste of effort.

The proper etiquette is calling it CHRISTMAS cards. There is no such thing as X-mas. This is very offensive to us Christians. I believe it is 2 weeks before Christmas for the cards. Hope yours is Merry!

It's a Christmas card, not an invitation. As long as they get it before Christmas it is fine.

2-3 weeks is fine.

Don't send to those who don't send to you.

You should have all of them out and gone in the mail by....hmmm....the 13th...TOMARROW!
That way it will give people time to display them.
And yes..you do have to send cards to those that don't send any to you.....make 'em think of ya. Guilt.......

a nice note on the card rather than just a signature and that it gets there by Christmas.
